DIEN BIEN PHU

Dien Bien Phu is a city located in the northwestern part of Vietnam. It is most famous for being the site of a significant battle during the First Indochina War. The battle of Dien Bien Phu took place from March to May 1954 and resulted in a decisive victory for the Viet Minh, the communist forces led by Ho Chi Minh.

The battle was a major confrontation between the French Union forces, primarily composed of French troops, and the Viet Minh. On May 7, 1954, the French garrison at Dien Bien Phu surrendered to the Viet Minh. The battle marked a turning point in the First Indochina War and led to the eventual withdrawal of French forces from Vietnam. It also set the stage for the subsequent division of Vietnam into North and South, which ultimately culminated in the Vietnam War.
